Course objectives include:
- Define primary care physical therapy and understand its role within the healthcare system.
- Distinguish between primary care and emergency physical therapy
- Identify the benefits of physical therapy in primary care, including improved patient outcomes and enhanced healthcare efficiency.
- Identify the roles assumed by a primary care physical therapist including 1) triage screening, evaluation and initial care navigation, 2) ongoing management and surveillance, and 3) ongoing health promotion and wellness
- Recall the education, competencies and clinical privileges of primary care physical therapists with respect to professional, jurisdictional, and personal scope of practice.
- Identify various clinical settings where primary care physical therapists provide services.
- Describe the primary care physical therapist’s role in addressing matters related to population health.
- Recall the operational, cultural and financial factors associated with various integrated interprofessional models of care.
